Woodlands Primary School & Nursery is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, capable, and highly motivated individual to join our dedicated team. We are delighted to offer an exciting opportunity for an experienced and committed SEN Pupil Support Assistant to support children with Special Educational Needs and contribute to our inclusive learning environment.

This is an exciting opportunity to work alongside caring, supportive staff and fantastic children who are eager to learn. Experience of working within a Key Stage 1 setting would be advantageous, and experience supporting pupils with Special Educational Needs (SEN) is essential.

Experience of delivering a synthetic phonics programme, such as Read Write Inc., would be beneficial. However, a willingness to learn, a positive attitude, and a commitment to ensuring every child reaches their full potential are equally important.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support class teachers in delivering high-quality learning experiences.
  • Work with small groups and individual pupils to boost attainment, particularly in English and Mathematics.
  • Assist with the planning, preparation, and delivery of targeted intervention programmes, specifically around SEMH.
  • Promote positive behaviour, emotional wellbeing, and inclusion.
  • Contribute to the wider life of the school, including educational visits, school events, and enrichment activities.
  • Maintain accurate records and contribute to pupil progress reviews and evaluation processes.

You Will Be a Great Fit If You:

  • Have a sound understanding of the Key Stage 1 curriculum, or are willing to develop your knowledge and skills.
  • Are enthusiastic, highly motivated, and passionate about making a positive difference to children's lives.
  • Enjoy working with young children and building positive relationships with them.
  • Are creative and committed to making learning engaging, meaningful, and enjoyable.
  • Inspire trust, build confidence, and embrace challenges to raise pupil aspirations and achievement.
  • Work effectively as part of a successful, hardworking, and dedicated team.
  • Have experience of planning, assessment, data interpretation, target setting, and pupil tracking, or are willing to learn.
  • Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Possess a good sense of humour and a positive outlook.
  • Are prepared to support children's personal care needs where required.

Qualifications and Experience

  • A relevant qualification, such as a Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification, is desirable.
  • A good general standard of education, including GCSE English and Mathematics at Grade C/Grade 4 or above (or equivalent).
  • Previous experience of supporting pupils with Special Educational Needs is essential.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

What We Offer

  • A welcoming, friendly, and inclusive school community.
  • Caring and supportive colleagues who are committed to working together.
  • Supportive leadership and excellent opportunities for professional development.
  • The opportunity to be part of a dedicated team making a real difference to pupils' lives.
  • Access to wellbeing support and a range of staff benefits.
  • Membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS), with generous employer contributions.
